the hawthorn tree - july

 

 

 

 

The hawthorn tree is full of leaf and maturing haws. 
A potential rival tree has sprouted underneath... a forgotten acorn planted by a squirrel maybe?

 


 Marsh thistles growing up amongst the lower leaves of the hawthorn. And underneath in the long meadow grass are birds-foot trefoil and self-heal.





And meadow brown butterflies everywhere.

    Such pretty flowers - among my favourites. (Including the grass.) We don't seem to see Meadow Browns here - or maybe I'm just not looking in the right way. The photo of the haws - great.

      Thanks Lucy. The photo of the haws is my favourite too! Everywhere you look here there are Meadow Brown butterflies, so many that if a butterfly is a different variety it rather stands out!
