trelystan

Even though I live 'in town', the hills aren't that far away. Within a couple of miles you can escape to what can feel like another world of mountain views and even snow, which delighted the boys! When you reach the ridge of Long Mountain, to the west you can see Cadair Idris and the Berwyn mountains, and to the east the Stiperstones and Cordon Hill.
On a bracing day walking across farmland, the views were enhanced by the beautiful stark shapes of the bare trees and the fields were peppered with molehills, which seemed to be prolific.
Quite literally in the middle of nowhere is Trelystan Church (more here) . It is quite a magical building nestled amongst trees in a field, surrounded by more fields. It was strange to see a Church not surrounded by dwellings, but it felt very much part of its landscape and gave a glimpse into the area's rich history.
It was one of those places where you wonder why you hadn't been there sooner when it's on our doorstep.

snow prints

'Animals, Tracks & Signs' was a favourite childhood book which always comes to mind when I see prints in the snow. Delicate bird prints always delight. Today after a light dusting of snow, spotting Mr Brock's trail for the first time made me want reach for that book again.

Easter weekend

An Easter walk in the snow... still around after a week of freezing cold temperatures.
Back to the woods to leave an Easter offering to the little occupants of the tree!
K leaving a trail of little tree living snowmen.
Delightful times spent with visiting family from London.
Egg hunt in the garden. The Easter bunny leaving eggs in some perilous places, but littlest one undeterred.
Spring time flowers beginning to emerge giving us some hope for warmer temperatures!

Springtime snow!

It was quite a shock to open the door to so much snow today.

The view from our house overlooking the town.

Thoughts frequently turning to a very special lady that we said goodbye to yesterday. So grateful that all of this snow didn't show itself a day earlier.

A walk in the field by our house.

F planning his next sledge run.

V enjoying rolling down the hill in the deep soft snow.

Looking into the Deer Park of neighbouring Powis Castle, the deer disappeared before I could get the camera out!

Patterns in the snow

We had another blanket of snow last night which made it feel like winter would just go on forever.

Everywhere there seems to be pattern.
The sun came out today and the icicles started to drip.
The water dropping off the trees made spots in the snow.
Now it is evening and I can hear the rain pouring down.
In the morning all this will be gone.
And maybe Spring will start to come? Here's hoping!
Oh and these pictures were taken with my phone camera so please excuse the fuzzy focus!

A Snow Day.

The long awaited 'Snow Day' didn't disappoint. After half an hour of wrapping the boys up in as many layers as possible, we trudged outside.
It wasn't quite sledging snow, so we had a playful walk around the field.
Son #2 decided to spend most the time rolling around in the snow and practicing his 'Bear Grylls moves'.
I love how snow highlights little details that you normally don't notice as the eye searches for something to rest on.
On the far side of the field we caught sight of a Fox. This was the first time I'd seen one here, so it was rather exciting. The colour of it's coat and it's long bushy tail really stood out against the snow. On seeing us it returned to the cover of the trees. I felt a little bad for interrupting its search for food. Hopefully it found some, which wasn't our neighbours chickens.
Since I was a child, I have loved seeing bird prints in the snow.
Then it was time to go back indoors and have some hot chocolate.

I began to experiment today with some of the manual settings on my camera. This article by Capturing Childhood is very helpful for taking snow pics. I have learnt so much.

I hope you have enjoyed some snow today.
