Patterns in the snow

We had another blanket of snow last night which made it feel like winter would just go on forever.

Everywhere there seems to be pattern.
The sun came out today and the icicles started to drip.
The water dropping off the trees made spots in the snow.
Now it is evening and I can hear the rain pouring down.
In the morning all this will be gone.
And maybe Spring will start to come? Here's hoping!
Oh and these pictures were taken with my phone camera so please excuse the fuzzy focus!

A Snow Day.

The long awaited 'Snow Day' didn't disappoint. After half an hour of wrapping the boys up in as many layers as possible, we trudged outside.
It wasn't quite sledging snow, so we had a playful walk around the field.
Son #2 decided to spend most the time rolling around in the snow and practicing his 'Bear Grylls moves'.
I love how snow highlights little details that you normally don't notice as the eye searches for something to rest on.
On the far side of the field we caught sight of a Fox. This was the first time I'd seen one here, so it was rather exciting. The colour of it's coat and it's long bushy tail really stood out against the snow. On seeing us it returned to the cover of the trees. I felt a little bad for interrupting its search for food. Hopefully it found some, which wasn't our neighbours chickens.
Since I was a child, I have loved seeing bird prints in the snow.
Then it was time to go back indoors and have some hot chocolate.

I began to experiment today with some of the manual settings on my camera. This article by Capturing Childhood is very helpful for taking snow pics. I have learnt so much.

I hope you have enjoyed some snow today.

So let's begin...

I have been writing a blog for some time over at Christ Church Welshpool , which documents our journey restoring an old Victorian church and converting it into a family home. I've grown to really enjoy the creative side of blogging and thought it would be nice to create my own to share a more personal view, away from the scaffolding and lime plaster.

We'll have to see how this unfolds but I expect this blog to consist of a lot of photographs of the loves of my life, which of course center around my four boys... my man, a teen, a junior, an infant. My garden and allotment will feature highly as I love photographing flowers as much as I love growing them. One big love of my life is walking, often up a hill so I can get to see some big skies and looking out for birds, wild flowers and butterflies, so there will be a sprinkling of nature spots along the way. When I'm not outside, my favourite indoor activity is making things, from sewing and knitting to jams and chutneys.

I hope this will be an enjoyable visual record of those loves. Thank you for joining me.

So let's begin...

First my garden, before it starts to wake up for Spring.

If I had more time I would sketch these grasses. Love the strong light and dark vertical lines, with the odd curve, spot and horizontal. Love too the washed out warm colour they have, even on a freezing January morning. Hence 'Hay' in this blog's name... with Slate Grey and Lime being colours I surround myself with indoors.
